Cordelia WWC Story

Cordelia WWC Story

My name is Cordelia Andoh, a trained midwife with a background in community health nursing and a strong focus on preventive care. Over 24 years of working with women and young children, I’ve noticed that women’s health often receives little attention until pregnancy, even though breast and cervical cancer rates continue to rise.

In 2016, I became interested in WHW’s breast and cervical cancer screening initiatives. This interest turned into action in 2023 when Nkawie Toase Hospital partnered with WHW to open a Well Woman Clinic, where I work. Following training in May 2023, we launched operations in June 2023. By June 30, 2025, we had screened 1,703 women aged 25–45  years for precancerous lesions of the cervix, identifying and treating  48 cases of cervicitis, 175 vaginal discharges, 3 genital ulcers, and 23 VIA positives (15 treated with thermal ablation). Seventy-one women with suspicious breast anomalies were also referred for further management.

Regular initial and refresher training have enhanced my skills in this area, and I’ve also trained two colleagues to join the WWC. Management’s strong support has made integrating the WWC into clinical services smooth. I’m proud when doctors refer eligible women for these services, and always respond enthusiastically to colleagues’ “Well Woman” greetings with “I love my job.”
